---Alliance Command---

Admiral Hawk recieves Jamie's message.

"The Guardian? Hmmm. Lieutenant, what do you know about this Guardian?"

"Nothing sir. Aside from it was under construction for experimental purposes."

"Acknowledge the message."

"Yes, Admiral."

---Starbase 742---

A lieutenant starts to sweat as a late report from the Vega comes in.

"Captain Miller, the Vega has lost track of the Templarian battlefleet."

"How long ago?"

"About 6 hours ago, the Templarians ducked into Sector X after the Titanians beat the pants off of them."

"And WHY am I just now learning of this?"

"I don't know sir."

When the image of Captain Kren appeared on the Enduring Freedom's halo-screen he looked right into the eyes of an angered Cornerian. Brett immediately knew that he and this man weren't going to see eye-to-eye and wasn't in any mood to back down from a fight, even if this one would remain a fight of words. It was the Imperial captain who spoke first.

Kren: Stay out of this, Cornerian. It's not your concern. If Katina decides not to attack, they and their civilian population will not be harmed.

Brett responded instantly.

Brett: That is were you're wrong...

He looked and found the captain's insignia. He guessed it resembled a captain's insignia.

Brett: ...Captain?

The Imperial made no remark to correct him so he continued.

Brett: But I believe it is of my concern for many reasons, but I'll just give you a couple. One, some of my own people are on this planet and two, from what I've heard, you're clamming this planet in the name of your emperor. This sounds like, and correct me if I'm wrong captain, you're intensions are to control this planet and I'm just not going to let that happen.

Brett stood firm and waited for the Imperial captain's response.

---

[I had to rush this so I'll fix any mistakes I made tomorrow. I'm also thinking about playing as a second planet that might support the Empire. Wanna make this thing explode... if you get my meaning.]

Kren smiled.

"You're very perceptive, Captain..."

Kren trailed off, concentrating on his alien opposite number.

"...Cypher, is it? Still, you make it sound like that's a bad thing. We offer your planets advancement beyond the wildest imaginations of your scientists, protection and a secure outlet to the galaxy. And for this gift, all we ask is that you join us and abide by our laws."

Kren crossed his arms and gazed thoughtfully upon Cypher's hologram for a few seconds.

"If you want to evacuate your citizens, go ahead, and be quick about it. If you want to stop us from claiming Katina, then we will open fire. If you won't see reason with words, you will see reason with weapons. I'm hoping you'll keep it confined to words."

An Alliance fighter patrol wing of 12 fighters, named Delta Squadron, monitors the situation around Katina, and relays it back to Starbase 742. Captain Miller makes a decision...the Templarians had yet to provoke the Alliance so, the fighter wing would not do anything unless fired upon. This message was relayed back to the fighters...who were getting annoyed at the lack of action. In the mean time, Captain Miller was waiting for the Templarians, to knock on the front door...he had the Chancellor, the Guardian-class cruiser Vega, the Aegis-class Battlecruiser Orion, and the Evans-class destroyer Norfolk all on standby in orbit of Macbeth.

Olek was heading back to Katina. He had got amessage from Sanguine that the ships captain Knew of his presence and to get back as fast as possible. He arrived back at the command centre and hedaded to the transmission room. Sanguine had requested his presence for a transmission to the Templarians. he arrived to see Sanguine standing near a comm screen about to hail the Undying Faith

"You wanted me here sir."

"Ah yes Olek. I wanted you to take a look at this guy. I want to know what you think of him."

"Are you ready to hail sir?" asked one of the comms officers

"Yes. send message "This is Commander in Cheif Sanguine of the Katinan army. We will not display any hostility to you if you do not display any hostility to us. You are clear to land."

Sanguine and Olek wait for a response.

Brett thought about the message for a few moments. He did have the authority to engage with the Undying Faith but he wasn't so sure he was up to starting a galactic war. Before he had a chance to respond with an answer a message played though the Halo-screen.

Message: This is Commander in Chief Sanguine of the Katinan army. We will not display any hostility to you if you do not display any hostility to us. You are clear to land.

Kren cut the channel.

Brett: Dammit... I hope those Katinains know what they're doing.

Brett's second-in-command, Mike Brouda, walked over to him.

Mike: Sir, the refugees are safe. We can get out of here before things get out of hand.

Brett knew he was right, knew that it was a better decision to leave now; he hated running from a fight. But he had no choice now that Katina's government had granted the Imperial's request. He was forced to back down, so he gave the order and the Cornerians left the system.

---

(I'm hoping I'm getting those names right.)

Kren smiled in satisfaction; the Cornerians had left the sector.
His bridge crew erupted in shortlived cheers and taunts that the aliens would never hear, but it helped their morale nonetheless.

"Righto then. Call in the battlegroup from standby. Tell them to maintain overwatch while I land and be prepared to give drop pod support if something goes wrong."

Kren watched the screen as, a few minutes later, a portal just like the one that his ship travelled through opened up and expelled a dozen ships of various sizes.
Amongst them, two Dreadnoughts stood out as the leaders of the group, surrounded by three cruisers, three destroyers and four Battlecruisers, all long and somewhat flat, very smooth with no hard edges.

"Prep Ishco Regiment for launch. Considering that they tried to send someone to my ship, I'm not about to trust them. Get me a MAR-5 fuelled and assemble my retinue. If you lose contact with me or my men, immediately begin dropping Ustar Regiment troops to the surface and notify the Battlegroup."

A few moments later, Kren and a Black Hand team were assembled in one of the Undying Faith's bays before a fuelled and ready MAR-5.

MAR stood for Mechanized Assault Recon, named for the squad carrying dropship's long sensor range and ability to transform into a slow walking unit with it's armored engine pods that served as clumbsy but usable legs, a feature that had not been originally intended.

Kren turned without a word and climbed up through the hatch, his men following and taking seats inside the fairly small ship's interior.

"Alright pilot, we're ready. Lift off." Kren ordered.

"Aye sir." The pilot replied, the bay doors peeling back into the hull.
The ship rumbled to life and lifted off the cold metal floor, it's engine pods turning to the rear as it blasted out into space and began it's descent toward the planet.

((Yeah, the names are right.))

Jamie got her reply and she was satisfied that the admiral was going to accept the ship. She then sent a message back to Admiral Hawk. "Admiral...this ship is one of my most powerful ships. We have two of them, one for us and one for you. They have shields beyond the ones developed here so far. I do hope the ship serves you well." She closed the channel and started to send a signal to Captain Miller. "Captain...I am worried because the Templarian Empire could be hiding in the shadows...this base is at yellow alert. Request to go to orange alert sir."

Captain Miller turns to face the screen.

"Captain, Starbase 742 has been sitting at Red Alert as of 5 minutes ago...Katina's all but surrendered, if I were you, I'd skip orange, whatever that is, and go streight to red."

An ensign gives a report.

"Sir, Delta Squadron reports the Cornerians have withdrawn from Katinian orbit."

Ganon quickly patted Meeklo down, stripping him of weaponry as he went. "Right. Now, then..." He looked around and spotted a sturdy Wygbush, a hardy little plant that grew in the desert. Incredibly hard to tear the stalks. Ganon dragged Meeklo toward it while he responded, "Ganon Firenight... Titanian Royal Guardsman. Pissed off SOB who just lost his entire unit to a bunch of clawed sandwhores and Skeletor cubed. Hold still." He grabbed a long frond of the wygbush with his tail and pulled. He grunted, groaned. Panted. He paused, steeled himself, and pulled again. His talons slid through the dirt as he moved toward the plant. He cursed loudly, grabbed his gun with his tail, held it to the bottom of the stalk, and fired. Five long, incredibly tough fronds fell neatly to the ground. He scooped them up, then turned and pressed Meeklo against his ship, holding him with his knee and tail while he began to fashion a pair of makeshift handcuffs from the fronds.

A few moments later he slipped them onto Meeklo's wrists and pulled them, tying them again. "Too tight?"

"A little."

"Good." Ganon sent out a distress signal with his communicator and pressed the gun against Meeklo's head again, leaning back to wait.

"So. Read any good books lately?"

"Oh yeah. All of the men in my regiment were made to read this Terran book called 'The Art of War.' Sun Tzu was obviously a Templar." Meeklo replied wryly.

He contemplated his situation; he was completely disarmed and being held prisoner by an alien with a gun to his head.
Judging by how hard it was for the xeno to sever the plant stalks, he wouldn't be able to remove them without the aid of some machine or a lot of time.

Plus, the xeno was bigger than he was and no doubt much stronger.

"So, let me guess. Your people retrieve us and take me to some camp. Torture me, interrogate me. What do you hope to gain by taking me prisoner, anyway?"

---

Captain Gintar looked across the deck of the Battlecry, watching a distant tactical screen that showed little blips in tight formation, representing the cruisers, approaching Titania at high speed.

"Have they seen us?" He asked.

"No sir. Seems that they can't pick us up yet."

"Right. Stay to the far side and take us into the rings. After that, we have to go about this very quickly. Everyone ready?"

A resounding chorus of "Aye, sir"s filled the room.

Gintar nodded, shifting his eyes to the viewscreen.
He leaned forward as the planet got closer and closer, his ships starting to enter the rings.

Let's do this.

Ganon shrugged. "I don't think there would be a lot of torture involved. They might press you for information, but mostly they'll just figure out how to use and replicate your technology and you'll probably rot in a cell for a long time." He leaned back, waiting. Someone would be sent to pick them up soon. Until then there was a lot of waiting to be done.

"So anyway, you're a very militant people it seems. What's this whole conquering thingy about? Religion? Expansion? Sh*ts and giggles?" He looked up at the sky idly. Clear. Good sign, meant there was no storm coming.

-----

Leyd sighed. "Any word on the crashed Templar fighter?"

"Yes, sir, the pilot is alive and being detained by one of the Guardsmen. They're waiting to be picked up."

"Just one Guard?"

"The rest of his unit was evidently killed, sir."

"By just one Templar!?"

"No, sir, by reklen and a bone dragon that caught them by surprise."

"Damn. Well, get me the report when it comes in."

"Yes, sir."

"Damn." Jamie cut the link and sighed, the soldiers bustling in and out of her office, holding papers of numerous sorts. She got their attention by banging her desk with her hands and stood from her comfy chair, looking them square in the eyes. "It has come to my attention that this Templarian empire has aquired Katina as its own. It is not in my intentions to have this base surrendered by any means other then we are all dead and laying rotting on the ground. Status Yellow is cancelled, go to red alert immediately. If the Alliance says attack, then by god you attack. Clear?" "Yes Captain!" Came the replies, the soldiers quickly running out of the office to raise the alert status and prep the ships for combat appilcations if the need arised.

Sanguine turned to Olek.

"What do you think of this guy?"

"Well sir I know he won't trust us but I believe we can trust him. He seems to be telling the truth. Or what he thinks is the truth anyway. I say we wait."

"Sir a unknown vessel is approaching the hanger." Called out one of the soilders.

"That must be Kren. I say we go meet him in the hanger. You coming Olek?" Asked Sanguine

"Ok sure." Replied Olek

They head off to the hanger and arrive just as the Templarian ship lands.

"A bit from column A, a bit from column B. The Priors and Priests would definitely say that it's God's will. Me? I figure God's got his own concerns, a galaxy or two probably doesn't mean much."
---

The Battlecry was getting closer to it's target.
Gintar's heart began beating faster and faster as the ships slipped through the cloud of dust.

"Nearing the target. Fifty metras and closing." A crewman behind the Captain called.

"Get the pods ready." He ordered.

"Forty metras."

Gintar's grip on the command console tightened until his knuckles went white."

"Thirty metras...twenty...ten..." The crewman announced with a few seconds of delay between each.

Gintar closed his eyes, counting mentally.
All together, his mouth and eyes opened.

"Launch breaching pods, now!"

The cruisers lined themselves up with the guns, one for one gun, fully half of the Ring Guns, and launched a huge barrage of large, black spheres.
Each armored ball approached at high speed, many slamming directly into the structures themselves, little grapples on their surfaces attaching them to the walls.

"Marines away!" The same crewman cried.

"Right, get us into the atmopshere. We'll hide in the cloud layer and prepare to carry out phase two."
---

Inside Ring Gun 1, the wall fell away, black torch marks along it's edges in a clear rectangular pattern.
Eight figures stormed through the hole, swinging their guns left and right to check the security of the hallway.

A towering figure, far taller than the others, raised a metal hand and pressed it to the side of his black helmet.

"This is Master Sergeant Nakriel, hall secure. Uplinking with the other Marines now."

Nakriel hefted his massive pulse rifle, bringing it to his left shoulder and sighting down the barrel.

"Corporal Arenet, take point. Private Shrot, Private Kal, watch our backs as we move. Get crackin', soldiers." He said, allowing a trooper to move ahead of him before signalling his men forward.

---

Captain Kren smiled, breathing in the Katinian air as it flooded through the opening hatch.
It was of fairly good quality in the central belt, especially when Spore Trees weren't in season.

The black clad soldiers dropped down through the hatch first, followed by Kren, who straightened his uniform upon hitting the hangar floor.

Kren looked toward the approaching figures; he clearly recognized the mental imprint of his would be assassin, and narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

Nevertheless, when he spoke, his tone was polite.

"Greetings, CIC Sanguine. It's refreshing to see a xeno who handles the situation clearly. And this, must be the man you sent to 'greet' me." He said, calmly indicating Olek.

"Ah yes. About that. We wanted to see how good your radars were. If they were good enough to pick up General Skilgannon here then they are by far the most advanced we have ever encountered. I, along with many other leaders of this planet, hope we can have a prosperous relationship." Replied Sanguine.

Sanguine turned around and indicated for Kren to follow him.

"I would like to show you around the base."

Olek walked up next to Sanguine and wispered in his ear.

"If it was to test their technology then what would of happened if they haadn't got me on radar?"

"You would of probally killed him." Sanguine wispered back.

"And that dosen't bother you sir?" said Olek still wispering.

"Not at all Olek. Not at all." replied Sanguine "Now are you coming or not captain?"

Nakriel's troops reached the bridge of RG1 with little resistance. The security measures inside the gun were, ironically, negligible, and those who attempted to resist Nakriel's troops lacked up-to-date weapons and the skills to handle them. Few cew members, it seemed, were actually part of the military.

Leyd was ready. He had his trusty Sting in hand. It was a beautifully designed, rare gun. Very few were ever made. It fired piercing, lethal shots, had virtually no kickback, was totally silent, and had an incredibly high overload point. Leyd could not shut down or break the gun. Only one of the newer ones had been designed with that feature. So he could only stand with his TO and wait for the enemy to come.

Durham was slightly more nervous. She had more to live for, and yet here she was. Leyd had told her to escape, but she had taken up a Gatling-class assault weapon and taken a stand beside him. Her knees shook.

Leyd's piercing eagle eyes turned on her. "Hide. Find somewhere safe and hide. If they find you, surrender."

"No!"

"Durham. If nothing else, you must survive to tell our story. Hide."

"I cannot run while--"

"That is an order, Elizabeth! Go, now!"

With tears in her eyes, she whimpered, "Yes, sir," and complied, looking around quickly. She spotted an empty storage compartment for weapons and personal belongings. It was a honeycomb shape and only the mouth stuck out of the wall some four feet off the floor. She handed her weapon off to a lieutenant and climbed into the compartment carefully. She was slight and of average height, and barely fit inside. She pulled the compartment nearly closed, leaving the cover open just a sliver so that she could breathe.

She would also be able to hear.

-----

Royal Adviser Claudius ran with young Czarina Margeurite. "Czarina, you must flee. The Templar have returned in force, and we have to get you out before they arrive."

"B-but our defenses--"

"They have already passed the Ring Guns! Even with our other defenses, there is a high chance that they will reach the city! You must go!"

Royal Adviser Trand sweetly stepped in front of them. "Ah, but we will surely be all right! After all, we have been bulking up our army... to defend the planet, correct, Czarina?"

The girl, no older than seventeen, nodded vigorously at Claudius. "Yes, yes! Trand has been advising me on how to better protect our people, you know!"

Claudius glared at Trand darkly. "Oh, I know. Get out of the way, Trand. Her life is not some part of your little game."

"Game? I'm simply looking out for the planet's... best interests..."

Margeurite was lost in all this, so she just stayed quiet.

"Best interests? Ha! You've nothing but your own gains in mind, and you're trying to take us to war to achieve them!"

"No! Trand, it isn't true, is it?" Margeurite stared between them in shock.

"... I had hoped it wouldn't come to this. When you are found, the Templar will be blamed, and finally we shall conquer. Too long has Titania re--"

It would have been much more dramatic if Claudius had waited until Trand was finished with his speech before removing his head with a beam of lethal light. Claudius didn't have time for drama, and in the middle of a word Trand's headless body dropped to the ground, the neck smoking, the wound cauterized. Margeurite stared in shock, and Claudius grabbed her by the arm, dragging her to the Royal escape ship. He shoved her in, buckled her in, and set the coordinates. He stepped back.

She looked through the window as the glass panel connecting the secret passage with the escape hangar closed. She sobbed and pounded on the glass of the inside of the ship. He just saluted and whispered, "Good-bye, highness."

Wordlessly, he returned to her office and ordered all troops capable of doing so to prepare for combat.

Titania would lose, he knew.

He told the generals to attack whenever they felt was the best time.

He walked to a liquor cabinet and poured himself a strong shot of whiskey. Make that two. He downed them.

He shook his head and poured himself a glass of bourbon. He took a fine Zonessian cigar and lit it. He sat down at his desk, which was beside her throne. He put his feet up.

He took a puff and waited for the end to come.

On the main viewscreen...it looked like Titania was going to hell in a handbasket...which wasn't far from the truth. One ensign, fresh out of the academy, had his eyes wide open.

"My God..."

"Ensign?"

"Sorry, sir..."

"I know ensign, when I was your age, I'd have been shocked by something like this too, it's looking more and more like we'll have to jump the gun..."

Jamie then turned in her chair and pressed the comlink that displayed the lead mechanic's face on the screen. "Dave, are the battleships prepped?" "Yes Captain." "And is my personal fighter prepped?" "Yes Captain." "Dave you are a genious." "Thank you Captain." SHe released the comlink and started to direct several soldiers to take their positions on the fort and if needs be, get on the starships and be ready to launch at a moments notice.
